Why Study Math and Science?
Statisticians. Information security analysts. Data scientists. Physician assistants. These are some of the jobs government experts expect to grow most quickly by 2030—and Columbia-Greene provides the introductory training for each. Can’t settle on a field to study? That’s OK. Columbia-Greene’s Math and Science Program encourages exploration, so it will be easy to pick a major when the time comes to transfer to a four-year college.
There is an ever-increasing need for well-qualified professionals in mathematics, fundamental sciences, and applied sciences. The Math/Science degree program provides students with a strong foundation in how the natural world works. Students complete courses in biology, chemistry, physics and/or mathematics. In the courses students apply mathematical models and the scientific method to solve concrete problems.
This program prepares students for transfer into a bachelor’s degree program in health science, biology, chemistry, laboratory technology and related fields. Columbia-Greene maintains transfer agreements with many four-year colleges, which may apply to graduates of this program. Students can select one of the following concentrations that best aligns with their career goals: health sciences, medical imaging, physician assistant, pharmacy, chiropractic medicine, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. It is important to work closely with your academic advisor for transfer opportunities and scheduling details.

Prepare to complete a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, science, or related fields, such as engineering, medicine, chiropractic, physical therapy, or laboratory technology. Classes provide an introduction to social science, mathematics, lab sciences, and computer science. Electives provide the chance to drill deeper into subjects of interest.
Columbia-Greene partnerships allow graduates to transfer to four-year institutions including the University at Albany, Siena College, SUNY New Paltz, Clarkson University, SUNY Stony Brook, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, SUNY Plattsburgh, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Albany College of Pharmacy, SUNY Oneonta, and SUNY Oswego.
